Types of climbing: Rock Climbing - Test your endurance and strength while climbing up natural rock formations using hand and foot holds or simply free climbing (using gear for safety only). Rock climbing relies on techniques and equipment with climbers usually working in pairs with a system of ropes to catch a fall. Top-roping is a climbing technique using a gear system, first by securing an anchor fixed at the top of a section of rock with a rope running from the climber up through the anchor and back down to the belayer (the person managing and controlling the safety rope attached to the climber). Different kinds of ropes and anchors positioned differently allows different methods of ascending the rock. Bouldering refers to the free climbing style with no use of anchors buddies or ropes. Bouldering uses chalk (for hand drying), a crash pad to protect a fall and climbing shoes for better traction. Bouldering requires strength and problem solving and often are limited to short trips 3-5 meters. Bouldering is a fantastic eco trip with many locations availbale throughout the US alone. Stay away for indoor gyms featuring climbing walls and opt for the natural approach.. enjoy the journey to the climb as well as the climb.
